A pie chart of annual spend looks tidy in a board pack and almost never changes what a buyer does on Tuesday morning. Manufacturing groups need concentration views tied to categories that can be dual-sourced, renegotiated, or stocked differently.

Map spend to the categories your planners already use: raw resin, fasteners, packaging film, tooling consumables. Inside each category, list the top suppliers by value and by order count. A supplier with modest value but dozens of urgent spot buys deserves as much attention as a high-value contract vendor.

Dashboards that help purchasers show concentration next to delivery reliability and price variance. A high-spend supplier with stable receipts and low variance may be a strength. A mid-spend supplier with frequent expedites is a risk even when the pie slice looks small.

When commissioning visuals, request a concentration table with click-through to open orders, not only a decorative chart. The table becomes the working surface for weekly supplier reviews.
